Wilmot Cancer Institute to host Feb. 11 Survivorship Symposium

Jan. 19, 2017
The day-long event will address common issues that cancer survivors face, such as anxiety and legal concerns.
UR Medicine’s Wilmot Cancer Institute will present a day-long symposium on Saturday, Feb. 11, for cancer survivors called “Reclaiming Life after Cancer: What Google Can’t Answer.” The event is open to those undergoing cancer treatment, those who have completed treatment and caregivers.

The symposium runs from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the University of Rochester’s Bloch Alumni and Advancement Center, 300 East River Road. It includes a light breakfast and lunch.

“Cancer has profound effects on every aspect of your life, not just your health,” said Louis “Sandy” Constine, M.D., director of Wilmot’s Judy DiMarzo Cancer Survivorship Program. “This day of workshops is designed to help survivors address their particular needs and find strategies for navigating life after cancer.”

The workshops throughout the day include topics such as:
  • Stress and anxiety, including “scanxiety” and survivors guilt.
  • Financial and legal concerns.
  • Intimacy and sexual health.
  • The role of nutrition in survivorship.
Each session will feature the perspectives of a cancer survivor and an expert in the field, as well as opportunity for discussion.

Registration is required in advance, and seating is limited. The cost is $10 for survivors and caregivers. To register or to learn more, visit www.cvent.com/d/jvq41x or call (585) 275-7666.
