Peggy Lamark, R.N., FNP-C, was honored recently with the 2015 Nursing Practice Award by the Genesee Valley Nurses Association. The award recognizes outstanding contributions in clinical nursing practice that reflect standards enunciated by the profession and by providing a role model for others.

Lamark, who has more than 39 years of nursing experience, serves on the Surgical Oncology Unit at the James P. Wilmot Cancer Center at Strong Memorial Hospital. Over the course of her career, she has served as a staff nurse, burn intensive care unit nurse, PACU and post-partum gynecology nurse and nurse leader. She serves as a preceptor for nurse practitioner students and is active in educating the staff on her unit. In addition, she has helped to educate physicians, nurses, physical and occupational therapists, and other professionals about fire prevention, burn care and other topics.

“I am very honored to receive this prestigious award from my peers. I share this award with my colleagues and, most of all, with my patients, who have made this award possible,” Lamark said. “The work that nurses do every day encompasses hard work of physical, emotional and mental challenges. I am proud and thankful to receive this award in recognition of nursing and all that we accomplish day in and day out, every shift that we work. Nurses do make a positive difference in patient outcomes.”

“Peg exemplifies what it means to be a nurse, and I am honored to work with and learn from someone like her,” said Beth Kiss, FNP, who nominated Lamark for this award. “Peg is not only a great educator, she is caring in her practice. She feels responsible to all of her patients, even when she is not at work, and she truly cares about patients.”

In addition to her professional achievements, Lamark volunteers for the American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, the American Diabetes Association and St. Pius X Church in Chili.

Lamark was honored May 13 during the Genesee Valley Nurses Association Annual Spring Dinner. The Genesee Valley Nurses Association is a professional organization for registered nurses in Allegheny, Livingston, Monroe, Ontario, Seneca, Wayne, and Yates counties. It presents awards annually to members who have made outstanding contributions toward the protection of the public, advancement of the profession and enrichment of the Association.
