For Dr. Katherine Mader Noeldner, the value of her Prosthodontics Residency at Eastman wasn’t just the comprehensive clinical training, but also the camaraderie. As chief resident, she credits much of her experience to the close-knit bond with her co-resident, Dr. Gabriela Parra. From sharing lab tools and skills to traveling together for conferences, their friendship brought humor, support, and unforgettable memories to an intense three-year journey.

Q: Where are you from?
A: I grew up in South Bend, Indiana.

Q: Why did you choose Eastman?
A: Its strong reputation in prosthodontics, the opportunity to work with an amazing faculty, and the diverse and complex patient cases that allow for comprehensive training. The alumni base is very strong, and after meeting previous graduates, Eastman seemed to be the best fit for the education I was looking for.

Q: In what way did your Eastman experience allow you to grow?
A: Eastman provided an incredible environment to refine my clinical skills, learn cutting-edge prosthodontic techniques, and build confidence in managing complex cases. Personally, I’ve grown by developing strong relationships with my colleagues and mentors, learning resilience, and embracing the challenges that come with residency.

Q: Favorite thing about EIOH?
A: The conglomeration of different perspectives from all over the world. I’ve learned more about cultures and eaten more diverse food than ever in my life. During holiday seasons, it’s amazing what a feast can be prepared to celebrate!

Q: Best memory of your EIOH residency?
A: All of my best memories from EIOH consist of my one and only co-resident, Gabi Parra. Gabi and I have sat across lab benches for the past 3 years, sharing tools through the window, looks of annoyance, and laughs along the way. She has taught me many lab skills with her creativity and waxing abilities. Without Gabi as my co-resident, I would not have had as many laughs and smiles.

Dr. Mader enjoys skiing and exploring nature with her husband.

Q: Who has supported you in this journey?
A: The person who has continued to be my biggest supporter is my husband, and also our dog, Huckins. Both Jake and Huck have been my rock over the past three years with support to continue during the long days, and also share in the joys of big achievements.

Q: What are your next steps after graduation?
A: I will be moving back to Indiana and working at Michiana Dental Implants to be closer to family while figuring out long term career plans. My husband and I have the dream to move to Utah in the near future, to be closer to the mountains for skiing, and national parks to explore.

Q: Any advice for incoming EIOH residents?
A: Stay curious, ask questions, and take advantage of every opportunity to learn. Residency can be challenging, but trust the process, support your co-residents, and enjoy the journey. The knowledge and experience you gain at Eastman will be invaluable.

Q: The one thing you can’t live without?
A: Costco – best place to shop for everything you need, and didn’t know you needed!

Q: Favorite part of Rochester?
A: The best part about Rochester is the proximity to the Finger Lakes, and Canada. We have explored Canandaigua, Conesus, Seneca Lake, Cayuga, and Skaneateles.  Being close to the Canada border, we have traveled to Niagara Falls, and have been to Niagara on the Lake, Monte Tremblant, and Toronto. The proximity to all these areas has made weekend exploring easy to do!

My favorite local restaurant, for both delivery and sit down, is Chen’s Garden.

Most common weekend activity: riding bikes to Lock 32.
