EIOH Resident Spotlight - Claire Lee

Claire Lee, originally from Tenafly, New Jersey, was no stranger to Rochester when she began her master’s in Dental Science at EIOH. Having just earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Rochester, she seamlessly transitioned into graduate studies, where she dove into clinical and translational research. Her efforts culminated in an abstract titled “The Role of Exercise Induced Hypoalgesia Profile in Post Traumatic Neuropathic Orofacial Pain,” which she presented about at the IASP 2024 World Congress on Pain.
Q: Why did you choose Eastman?
A: I chose Eastman because of the research and opportunities to learn about dentistry before going to dental school. I loved learning from the community because they are so supportive and genuinely wanted me to succeed.
Q: What are your next steps after graduation?
A: I will be headed to Touro College of Dental Medicine to pursue my DDS degree, and I hope to return to EIOH!

Q: Best memory of EIOH?
A: I enjoyed meeting my classmates and creating memories outside the classroom. We went skiing at Bristol and went to dinners. It was nice to create memories outside of school!
Q: In what way did your Eastman experience allow you to grow?
A: I had limited dental knowledge because I do not have my dental degree yet, so I was able to learn a lot from our amazing professors and renowned dentists from all over the world.
Q: Favorite thing about EIOH?
A: The people! Everyone is so nice and supportive! When I first joined, I was nervous. However, when I met Linda Lipani, she was so welcoming and calmed all my nerves! Everyone was so supportive throughout my dental school application process.

Q: Any advice for a new resident?
A: I would recommend exploring Rochester and upstate NY. There’s a lot of things to do in Rochester and cool places to visit with your fellow residents.
Q: What do you love about the Rochester area?
A: There is a lot of history in Rochester. I loved going to the concerts at Eastman School of Music, trying new restaurants, and going to the museums in Rochester.
Q: Other than dentist, what career would you choose?
A: If I was not a dentist, I would like to be a teacher. I like working with kids because they can be funny.
Q: Your biggest fear?
A: My biggest fear is earthworms. I like gummy worms, but I hate earthworms.
Q: A person who has inspired you?
A: My parents inspired me to pursue my dreams, and I wouldn’t be here without their support!
