A HRSA National Health Service Corps Scholar, Dr. Kaylee Young (Peds ’25, GPR ’23) knew she made the right choice by coming to Eastman Institute for Oral Health, not just for the top-tier training, but for the people. “My favorite thing about EIOH has been my co-residents,” she says. “We’ve grown so close, and I know we always have each other’s backs.”

Q: Where are you from?
A: Ogden, Utah

Q: Why did you choose Eastman?
A: Eastman has an excellent reputation, and I was incredibly proud and excited to match here.

Q: Best memory of your EIOH residency?
A: Attending the sedation conference in Los Angeles with my co-residents was an unforgettable experience. It was so much fun learning and growing together. I also had a blast tricking them into going to Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios during the trip—absolutely hilarious!

Q: In what ways did your Eastman experience help you grow professionally and personally?
A: I feel incredibly well-prepared to step into practice. My GPR experience gave me confidence in handling extensive caries, locating canals for pulpectomies, and troubleshooting difficult extractions. My pediatric dental residency has further strengthened my ability to manage challenging cases, work efficiently in both the clinic and OR, and help children gain confidence in the dental chair.

Q: What are your next steps after graduation?
A: I have a job lined up in Wisconsin, and I’m beyond excited—especially for the cheese!

Q: Any advice for new EIOH residents?
A: Residency isn’t easy, but you will gain the confidence and knowledge needed to become the best clinician for your patients.

Q: If you had to pick three important things in life, what would they be?

  • My four kids and my husband—they’re my everything.
  • Quality time with the people I love.
  • Being a good example for my kids.

Q: Describe yourself in three words.
A: Mom, Tenacious, Prankster

Q: What do you do to feel better on a bad day?
A: In our pediatric clinic, Dr. Wong always has the best treats in her office. If I’m having a rough day, I sneak in for a snack—of course, I brush my teeth afterward!

Q: Hobbies or talents? What do you like to do for fun?

  • I love drawing! I’m always doodling on the clinic’s marker boards to make it a fun environment for our pediatric patients. If I could moonlight as a Disney animator, that would be a dream come true!
  • I love photography—I used to shoot engagement and wedding photos.
  • I love running

Q: One thing you’ve always wanted to do but never have?
A: Go to Europe
